House (again)

June 27th, 2007

I’ve been neglecting to post. It’s been a month. I’ll have to try to do better.

We signed the papers for our new house last night. It’ll probably be a week or so until we actually move. I’ll update everyone with our new address then.

Memorial Day

May 28th, 2007

[Original post 05/27/2008 -- updated links 05/28/2007.]

For some recent pictures that show the real purpose of Memorial Day see http://cryptome.sabotage.org/mayday/mayday.htm. (This link may change after a few days or so. If anyone is reading this post after it is more then a week or so old can try http://cryptome.sabotage.org/mil-dead-iqw.htm or http://www.defenselink.mil/Releases/Archive.aspx.)

Now you may not agree with the political views of the Cryptome site. That is ok. That is part of the freedoms of we celebrate in honor of past sacrifices.

I started to post this yesterday [05/26/2007] and quit because I didn’t know what to write about the controversial aspects of the being for or against the war. But I looked at the photos again today [05/27/2007] and just had to share this.

Memorial day is not just for backyard cookouts, a day off of work, and auto races. For some people, such as the families represented in those photographs, it is much more personal and deeply felt.

House

May 27th, 2007

A building this time not the show.

We signed a contract to buy a house this last week. It’s just a block away and the same floor plan as the one we are renting except it has a small addition that adds a small room onto the back of the master bedroom (that we will use as a bedroom for Xavior when he comes to visit) and a small eating area off of the kitchen.

If everything goes ok we should be able to move in at the end of next month.

Truck

May 27th, 2007

I’ve got an update on the truck.

I know know that if the police call you about your stolen vehicle it is good news.  (Which is what happened last year when we got it back.)  If you get a letter from the police poliece about your stolen vehicle it is bad news.

I’ll let Virginia post comments about it because her description is much more poetic.   The truck (some of it anyway) was recovered but not enough to be useful to us so we’re going to leave it where it is.

This is my 128-Bit Number [ CA 7F 11 28 A2 35 AD 9E DB AE 02 E4 68 4A BE 3F ].

If you want one you can get your own at Freedom to Tinker.

You can read about 128-Bit Numbers on Slashdot and on Risks.

For another interesting 128-Bit number Google for “09F9″ or “09 F9″.

Welcome Back Ken

May 9th, 2007

Welcome back Ken.

And a future welcome back again when you get Wordpress going

House

May 5th, 2007

The show — not a building you live in.

Some of Virginia’s on-line friends suggested she watch the show House.  I’ve watched a couple of episodes and found it quite interesting.  Give it at try if you need another time sink in you life.  (Keep in mind no average person makes a dime watching TV, and 99% of TV has no educational or other redeeming value.)

Dogs

May 3rd, 2007

I’m watching a show on Nature, “Dogs That Changed the World”.  It’s very informative and I recomend it to everyone.

Economic Bubbles

May 1st, 2007

I read a few articles the other other day about the economy. See “All the World’s a Bubble” & “Housing Bubble Boondoggle“. I’m not sure I can see the economic future now any better than when I was attempting to see when the job market would pick up for me.

Japan was in a nasty economic slump for 10 years that was as severe as the depression in the US in the 30’s. Everyone likes to think they are too smart for that to happen again. I think controlling an economy is kind of like controlling a river. Most of the time you are successful, but at a certain point all your controls are used up and you have to stand back and watch. There have been several examples from my river analogy the last dozen years or so. Time will tell if there are more serious economic disasters to come.

Truck

April 19th, 2007

One reason I wrote the previous post is because I thought it was about time to put something new here. Then I realized I had other news to post. The day before yesterday my truck got stolen. I got off the bus and at the park and ride and my truck wasn’t there. So now it’s an extra 20 min. each way to ride the local bus, 1 mile, to the express bus stop.

It was just a little over a year ago when it was stolen the last time. Hopefully I get it back this time too. At least I have a second vehicle now. People kept leaving notes on it that they want to buy it, so if I get it back maybe I’ll sell it and let it get stolen from someone else.
