Well I got the posts restored but the old pages don’t work. I kind of know what I need to do to fix them so I’ll keep working on them and get them working over the next day or so.

That’s great. You’ll have to let me know the process you used. I am about to have to make or help with that transfer with four to eight websites. We’ll see how many it ends up being.
Good to see you’re up and running. Best of luck with it. Let me know if I can help at all.
I’m not sure my process is the best. Essentially I read through the backup, hand loaded the tables individually, and then hand updated a few things to make it work.
Everything seems to work, but if the whole site melts down in the next few days then I’ll know I didn’t figure out something right.
That sounds a little more difficult than I was hoping. I think I’ll just make sure I create the backup file from Wordpress as well as the sql dump. That should be a little easier to handle than the process you just laid out.
At least it’s working. That’s the important part.
Yes, that would be my recommendation. I did it the way I did because I was unsure how to upload the file and how to run it if it did. It would be much safer to use Wordpress’s process. On the plus side I learned a little about how the internals of Wordpress works.
If you run into problems though get a hold of me and I can help with resolution. I was able to do what I did because I’ve been working with database for 25+ years and can make a pretty good guess on how they should work and how things fit together.
I should also add if any files have been uploaded snag a copy of them. I’m at work now and don’t remember off the top of my head which directory they are in. That was one of the things I had to do. (And it wasn’t included in the sql database backup.)
