A Picture — The Class — A book

Bluetooth Logo

I put the Bluetooth Logo on here just to see if I could. I attempted to put the logo in a comment I left on Ken’s site. It didn’t work. Perhaps pictures aren’t allowed in comments. Perhaps I just didn’t do it right. It took me about 6 tries to get it on here.

The Tech Writing class has been very challenging. I’m going to start working on it again as soon as I get this post in.

I found a book last night that looks promising, “The Pathfinder: How to Choose or Change Your Career for a Lifetime of Satisfaction and Success” by Nicholas Lore. List price is only $16.00. Anazon has it for about $11.00.

A short joke

Some kids were ask how to tell if people were married.

One girl said you need to watch and see if they were yelling at the same kids.

ENG111: Technical Writing

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

I had my first class meeting last night for the Technical Writing class I am taking. I was suppose to write a little about my self for it and thought it would make a good post here also. A lot of that class will take place on xanga.com (see http://www.xanga.com/awendtlandt). So now I have two blog’s to keep up.

As an aside, before I paste in my introduction from that, I got my fingerprint clearance card today. Now I can started working on the stuff I was hired to do. Yah!

I a computer programmer, just getting back into the field after being on involuntarily furlough the last few years. (I was laid off.) I’ve been taking various computer classes (just to update my skills) at several of the Maricopa Community Colleges for the last 15 years or so. I’m going to keep doing that, but I’m also going to concentrate on filling in required classes so that I can get my Associates and Bachelors degrees.

From this class, I just want to write better. I think my writing tends to be a little choppy. I would like it to flow a little better. I (sometimes) do tons of writing on the job. In the past, when doing design work, I’ve filled a couple of 2″ ring binders with detailed documentation. Anything I can do to speed up that process, and improve the quality, would be very valuable.

Congratulations on Ken getting his car.

Happy anniversary to Virginia.

I bought my books for the class the other day. $138.00 for two small books is a lot. Oh well thats what it costs.

I want to put my zBlackX logo on my site. I’ll see if I can figure it out over the next day or so. If I can’t, I’ll ask Ken for help.

I’ve been studying for my A+ certification the last two days. I took an A+ Prep class last spring at MCC but for a variety of reason I hadn’t gotten the actual tests taken. I think I’ll be ready to take the test in a couple of weeks or so.

Well that’s all for now.

I’ve put off announcing my site until I was in a position to have enough time to actually do something with it. I guess I’ll take the plunge now.

I got a content management system up. I’ll do more tuning and custominations as time goes by and I learn more about it.

This is good enough for now though because I need to get some other stuff done today.

01/07/2006 Well it’s after the first of the year. Time to get serious about what I want to do with my web site. I know I don’t want to just continue hand editing one page like I am doing so far. I guess I’ll do some research for now.

I signed up for a class at MCC. It starts a week from Tuesday if I remember correctly.

I’ve been reading through O’Reilly’s “Learning Java.” When I get done with that I want to get a book about UML and learn more about that. I took a class about System Design with UML a few years ago (more than 5 now) but I don’t feel comfortable with it yet. I’m leaning towards “Object-Oriented Design with UML and Java” because it includes a UML graphical design tool called ROME. I just wish I knew if that UML tool was any good or not. The free UML tool I have found didn’t work as well as I wanted. They were eather missing importent featurs or they were too slow and unresponsive. Perhaps I just need a new big fast machine instead.

Hello world!

01/05/2006 Happy Birthday Ken.

01/01/2007 Last day of work at Circle K — First day of the new year — Both occasions to look forward.

12/21/2006 Working Sat. and Mon. (Christmas) 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Might go to church with Nina’s Sunday. We’ll have our Christmas gettogether Sunday afternoon.

12/20/2006 Happy Birthday to Barbara. I mentioned to Ken I wanted to set up a web site. I meant after the first of the year, but he had registered my domain and started to set it up before I got off the phone. I don’t expect to get much more than a few posts like this until after I quick working at Circle K (after 01/01/2007) and have more time.

12/19/2006 Let the learning begin.
